AIMSSEC – Donate now to change lives. Empower thousands of African teachers to give many thousands of African children a better education and a way to escape poverty.

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Schools Enrichment Programme (AIMSSEC) founded in 2003, is a not-for-profit organisation empowering teachers to make an important difference to the educational opportunities of many thousands of African children, and also to train other teachers. Experts from universities across the world, work as unpaid volunteers, with the African staff, to give professional development courses for mathematics teachers, subject advisers and field trainers working in disadvantaged rural and township communities, improving their subject knowledge and teaching skills and providing resources. AIMSSEC’s work extends to other African countries and continues to grow and expand in the interest of sustainable improvement of education in Africa.

We raise funds for bursaries for some of the many hundreds of teachers in disadvantaged communities that are keen to attend the courses, yet have no funding to do so. We have raised enough funds for 20 teachers to attend the courses so far and our objective is that our fundraising will enable another 20 teachers to attend by raising £10,000. We will continue creating activities until Africa no longer needs our support.

We have held two benefit concerts with the wonderful Adventist Vocal Ensemble. You can see them here:

Adventist Vocal Ensemb

We were treated to the wonderful voices of the Adventist Vocal Ensemble, led by the fabulous Ken Burton.

Ken and the Adventist Vocal Ensemble perform for the BBC periodically and were chosen by Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin as one of her Desert Island Discs (BBC iPlayer http://bit.ly/RiseUpRoseDID ). Reverend Rose kindly agreed to host the benefit concert at All Saints Haggerston Church and we were delighted that she attended the concert in person. Reverend Rose is Speaker’s chaplain to the House of Commons, priest vicar at Westminster Abbey and chaplain to the Queen.
